Indoor Plant Arrangement Tips

It’s not that the greenery trend is entirely new, but recently, everyone seems to have gone mad about all things plants. It’s true: plants have the power to liven up any interior. That’s probably why most people’s homes have started to look more like jungles.

The thing about any well-designed interior is that it is well-designed. There is a balance both between design elements themselves and between elements and the rest of the room. Adding plants should be no exception: you need to know a trick or two to understand how to make them complement what you already have. No doubt, plants are cool; however, the jungle theme is better to be approached with knowledge and care, as too much of a good thing… well, you know.

Here we’ve prepared a few recommendations on how to arrange plants in your interior both to make you happy and to keep your plants lush and healthy.

Know What Your Plants Need

This means that you have to understand the basics of plant care. Some plants are not fit to be placed in dark corners, while others can’t stand direct sunlight. Temperature, humidity, sunlight, and a few other things should be taken into consideration when you think about locating your fiddle leaf fig or string of pearls, as the spot that looks perfect to you may not be ideal for them. Luckily, you have us, Plantum, to help you out with all plant care-related questions!

Choose Stylish Pots

Want to make your plants look even more eye-catching in your interior? Opt for designer pots. Don’t settle for something that doesn’t support your design scheme or fails to complement your plants’ size, shape, or color.

Mix and Match

Don’t go for one species and type: plants differ in shapes and sizes as well as in foliage and flower colors. The more interesting plant combinations you can arrange, the more impressive your interior design will be. Your best bet is to include different shapes, sizes, textures, and hues. Don’t keep similar plants together; it’ll give your room a slightly office-like look. Grouping different plants, on the other hand, provides a more visually appealing display.

Use Colors to Your Advantage

While the aforementioned mix-and-match tip is good at all times, you can go the other way round about it and choose plants that complement your interior design in color. All your rooms have some theme—make it even more pronounced with your plant’s color.

Create Depth

The rule of thumb is not to place all your plants in one line as if they are on sale. Opt for layering: put your tallest plants in the back and the shortest ones in the front. By doing so, you will also prevent taller plants from shading shorter ones. Grouping them in a certain fashion or around some piece of furniture is an interesting idea, too.

Take Size into Consideration

When it comes to size, keep it simple: small plants go to small spaces, large plants occupy large empty areas. Unless you strive for a real jungle feel and are fine with being a little overwhelmed by all the greenery, try to balance things out and set your bird of paradise in a spacious corner and your tiny succulents on your bedside table (not the other way round).

Win-win Solutions

  • Empty corners
  • Bookshelves
  • Cupboard surfaces
  • Coffee tables
  • Dining tables
  • Less Obvious Solutions

Bathrooms

If you are lucky enough to have a more or less spacious bathroom with a window, don’t hesitate to use it as a space for greenery. There are plenty of plants that would find your bathroom adorable—hot and humid—just like their natural habitat (e.g., a tropical forest). Perfect specimens to start with:

  • Moth orchid
  • Begonia
  • Snake plant

Hanging Plants Everywhere

A perfect solution for limited spaces that will both keep your room relatively uncluttered and add a bit of dimension to it. Plenty of plants will help you out here: from trailing and vining ones to low-maintenance hanging terrariums. Try these cuties first:

  • Air plants
  • String of bananas
  • Maidenhair fern

All in all, balancing plants with interior is mostly a matter of following the basic principles of composition as well as personal taste, of course. However, we hope that these simple tips will provide you with some plantspiration and help you turn your home not just into a jungle but into a stylish and aesthetically pleasing one!
